Iran jumps to 47th place in innovation index
On the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony of 10 top tech products of Yazd Province, , deputy head of the management development and investment attraction department of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, commemorated the Ten-Day Dawn and extended his congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the victory Islamic Revolution. He said Yazd Science and Technology Park is one of the country’s top parks, which the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology pays special attention to.
According to the public relations office of Yazd Science and Technology Park, at a meeting held on the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony of 10 top tech products of Yazd Province—which was held on February 3, 2019 at the Eqbal technology center and attended by Zeinivand, deputy head of the economic affairs coordination and resources development department of Yazd Governorate, and a number of provincial managers—Daliri said Yazdi companies hold the first position in many fields. “The necessary conditions to create a transformation in Yazd Province should be prepared, and the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology is ready to provide assistance in this regard.”
He welcomed the establishment of an innovation zone in Yazd Province and said, “Various potentials of the province should be identified and combined, and of course, Yazd Science and Technology Park, Yazd University, and the research and technology fund of Yazd Province could offer great help toward this end.”
Daliri said another way to develop the province is to activate acceleration centers and create the necessary conditions for investment in Yazd Province, noting, “Given the fact that there are great investors in Yazd Province, we should try to attract their attention to investment on new ideas.”
He said one of the problems facing the country in the past has been the failure to utilize the potential of science despite acceptable science production and despite having scientific elites, graduates, and top workforce. “Although we have been and are in top positions in the region in terms of science production in many areas, we ranked 125th among 140 countries in terms of innovation in 2014.”
He added, “Since then, we have decided to create a change and realized in our studies that there was a tangible gap between the economy, industries, and universities and that most teachings were theory-based and students were not getting involved in economic, technological, and production-related activities.”
Daliri said resolving this issue became the main priority of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, noting, “Startup events were held on a constant basis at universities and scientific centers, including in Sistan and Baluchestan and Kahnouj in Kerman Province, and the largest influential companies emerged out of these centers.”
He added, “So the atmosphere changed because we trusted the youth, gave them credit, and defined a specific planning model for them. And finally, it was announced last week that we have moved up to the 47th place in the world in the innovation index. However, we should try to be among the top countries in this field.”
