Need to change country's view of human sciences

Coinciding with Research and Technology Week, the deputy director of the Research Center of the Islamic Parliament, who had traveled to Yazd to attend the closing ceremony of the province’s tech market exhibition, met with CEOs of some companies based on the human sciences and arts campus at the conference hall of the Eqbal technology center on December 20, 2018. Mohammad Qavidel, director of the international relations department of the Yazd park, and Taqi Farhangnia, head of the human sciences and arts campus of the Yazd park, were present at the event.

According to the public relations office of Yazd Science and Technology Park, Seyyed Jalal Dehqani Firouzabadi, told the meeting that human sciences have a difficult path ahead to prove themselves as science. He said, “To do so, those who have mastered this science should try to resolve the problems facing the society so that people would feel these sciences are important.”

He emphasized the need to change the way human sciences are viewed, saying, “Unfortunately, graduates of this field are not trained to develop new ideas and technology.”

Dehqani spoke about technology in the field of human sciences and said, “Technology in the field of human sciences means a thought takes shapes through these sciences and that thought is turned into soft technology.”

He added, “Obtaining technologies in the cultural and social fields and generally the field of human sciences is more difficult than obtaining technologies in other fields of science.”

The deputy director of the Research Center of the Islamic Parliament criticized the fact that insufficient attention is paid to the issue of research in the country, saying, “Cutting the research budget is like depriving a dying patient of oxygen. Such a society will definitely face many problems.”

Further into the meeting, Mohammad Qavidel, director of the public relations office of the park, said Yazd Science and Technology Park has long been seeking to establish a structured link with the Research Center of the Islamic Parliament.

He said, “The aim of the meeting was to forge interaction between this body and the park to pave the way for familiarization with the activities of the companies based on the human sciences and arts campus and determining potential areas for cooperation.”

It should be noted that CEOs of the selected companies on the human sciences and arts campus of the Yazd park introduced their activities at the end of the meeting and had a question-and-answer session with the deputy director of the Research Center of the Islamic Parliament.
